All the road closures in Cardiff for the Wales v South Africa game this weekend

This weekend will see thousands of rugby fans descend on Cardiff to support Wales in their second game in this year's autumn international series against South Africa.

Wales will face the current world champions on Saturday, November 6 at the Principality Stadium, with kick-off at 5.30pm.

Last week, fans returned to the capital for the first full capacity rugby fixture since the beginning of the coronavirus lockdown in March 2020.

After the match, which saw the hosts losing 54-16 against a dominant New Zealand side, the city centre was packed, with thousands of fans pouring into pubs and restaurants.

And, with this weekend's fixture against the Springboks another full capacity match, it is likely that Cardiff city centre is in for another busy Saturday.

In preparation for the match, Cardiff city centre will be closed to traffic for most of the afternoon as thousands of people pour into the stadium.

Cardiff council has confirmed that there will be a "full city centre road closure" from 1.30pm until 8.30pm, affecting traffic in and around the centre.

The full list of road closures for Saturday's game:

  • Kingsway will be closed between its junction with North Road to its junction with Duke Street between 1.30pm and 8.30pm

  • Scott Road and Park Street will be closed from 7am while Gate 5 is prepared

Last Saturday, following the New Zealand game, there were queues of up to 30 minutes outside some nightclubs on St Mary Street by around 7.30pm.

There were also huge queues outside Cardiff Central station, with lines for services to London and Bristol stretching across Central Square, all the way back to Wood Street. You can see photos of that here.

Wales last faced South Africa in their 19-16 defeat in the 2019 Rugby World Cup semi-final.

Since the Lions tour this summer, the Springboks have been busy in the Rugby Championship, winning three of their six matches - twice against Argentina and most recently against the All Blacks on October 2.
