All the planned M4 closures this week

There will be a number of road closures along the M4 this week. A number of junctions will be impacted by overnight closures between March 28 and April 3 this week, and will affect motorists travelling through Cardiff, Newport and Swansea.

Here are all the closures affecting travellers in and around the M4 this week.

  • M4 westbound at junction 20: The M4 will be closed westbound at the entry slip at junction 20 from March 29 to March 31 between 10pm and 6am each day. This is due to roadworks taking place.
  • M4 between junctions 23 and 22: The M4 eastbound between junctions 23 and 22 will be closed from March 30 to March 31 between 10pm and 6am each day due to roadworks. It will be closed westbound between 9pm and 6am on the same days.
  • M4 westbound between junctions 18 and 19: The M4 westbound between junctions 18 and 19 will be closed between March 30 and April 1 due to roadworks. This will be between 11pm and 6am each day.

  • M4 between junctions 19 and 20: The M4 westbound between junctions 19 and 20 will be closed from March 30 to April 1 between 9pm and 6am each day due to roadworks. It will be closed eastbound

  • M4 between junction 33 and Culverhouse Cross: Work to address all hazardous trees identified in both directions between the M4 junction 33 and Culverhouse Cross is taking place. The works are being carried out Monday to Friday between 8pm and 6am. The road will reopen northbound on March 28 and southbound on March 31.

  • A48 Pont Abraham to Cross Hands: The A48 is closed from Cross Hands to the M4 junction 49 Pont Abraham until April 1. This is to carry out essential carriageway resurfacing to the A48 at both Cross Hands roundabout and Pont Abraham Roundabout in both directions. The closure is in place between 8pm and 6am every day and local diversions are in place.
  • M4 between junction 24 the Coldra and junction 27 High Cross: the M4 in both directions between junction 24 the Coldra and junction 27 High Cross will be closed in several phases to complete structural maintenance work on motorway bridges. This week Junctions 24 to 26 will be shut on March 28 and 29 between 8pm and 6pm and from junctions 24 to 27 will be shut on March 30 and April 1 at those same times.
  • A4232 westbound A48 interchange to the M4 junction 33 Capel Llaniltern: The A48 Interchange to the M4 junction 33 Capel Llanilltern will be closed from Monday March 28 until April 11 overnight due to maintenance work. The road will be closed from 8pm to 6am the following morning each day.

Further afield, the M4 is closed over the weekend of 25-28 March between Junctions 4b (M25 interchange) and 5 (Langley). The motorway will reopen by 6am on Monday 28 March. The M4 will be closed eastbound over the weekend of 1-4 April between Junctions 8/9 (Maidenhead) and 6 (Slough-Windsor). The closure will start after 8pm Friday 1 April and the motorway will reopen by 6am on Monday 4 April.
