All the North East areas now eligible for cold weather payments

The recent bitter temperatures has seen officials release a full list of where people can benefit from cold weather payments.

Payments began shortly before the end of 2020 and now the Government has updated its list, meaning many more could be entitled to receive a £25 boost.

In all we understand 338 different postcode areas can currently benefit, and these include those postcodes beginning with DH8; NE19; NE47, NE48 and NE49, which cover large parts of County Durham and Northumberland.

The cold weather payments are issued when the average temperature in a specific area is recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees Celsius or below across seven consecutive days.

Those who are eligible will be able to receive £25 for each seven-day period of cold weather.

The payment scheme runs between November 1 and March 31 in a bid to provide important support to those affected by a cold snap.

The £25 sum is paid directly into a person’s bank account to those who are eligible, and so there is no need to worry about administrative actions.

Furthermore, Universal Credit claimants are not the only individuals who may be able to unlock a payment, and others could receive the help if claiming:

  • Pension Credit
  • Income Support
  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support for Mortgage Interest

The updated list has been released by the DWP to provide additional information to those who could be affected.
