Today all towns and cities in England were placed into Tiers - with the majority of places in the country put into Tiers 2 and 3.
Under all Tiers, all shops will be allowed to reopen in England when lockdown ends on December 2 - including those which fall into the non-essential category, like Argos, Primark and Matalan.
However, the rules shoppers will have to follow vary depending on which Tier your town or city falls under, meaning Christmas shopping will look very different this year.
No matter whether you plan on doing your Christmas shopping at Asda, Tesco, Home Bargains, Aldi, Primark - or at smaller independent businesses - you'll need to make sure you're following the rules in place.
Here are the rules in place for shoppers in Tier 2 and 3:
Tier 2 Christmas shopping rules
- All shops open
- All shoppers must wear a mask indoors (unless exempt)
- Shoppers banned from mixing with anyone apart from households or bubbles in indoor shops
- Shoppers permitted to meet in outdoor retail spaces provided they follow the rule of six
Tier 3 Christmas shopping rules
- All shops open
- All shoppers must wear a mask indoors (unless exempt)
- Shoppers banned from mixing with anyone apart from househoulds or bubbles in both indoor and outdoor retail spaces
It's important to note that shops also have their own individual rules in place you must follow.
