All the new Edinburgh parking rule changes from Sunday as charges come into force

New parking rules will come into force in Edinburgh on Sunday, with the reintroduction of Sunday afternoon restrictions.

From April 11, new afternoon restrictions will come into force every Sunday to manage parking across the capital, ensuring roads are accessible for all.

Edinburgh Council bosses say the change is being made to reflect the fact Edinburgh is now a "seven-day-city", with many shops, restaurants and visitor attractions open throughout the week

They say the change will bring the capital into line with Glasgow and other UK cities which charge for parking on a Sunday.

But it's not the only change, with new rules on shared parking also set to come into force.

Shared parking changes

New rules on shared parking will also be introduced, meaning parking spaces can be used by permit holders and visitors.

An additional 3,000 new spaces will be available for residents, some of which will be shared and available for visitors who pay-and-display.

Changes for permit holders

Due to the coronavirus crisis, residents who had a valid permit were allowed to park in pay-and-display spaces, but this is now due to change. Edinburgh Council say they will write to residents with a date it will be withdrawn soon.
