Passengers are being advised not to travel beyond Newcastle and Preston as Storm Floris sweeps across the north of the country.
A yellow warning for wind for northern parts of the UK became active at 6am on Monday and will last until 6am on Tuesday.
Heavy rain could lead to flooding on some railway tracks and some trains may have to run at slower speeds due to the high winds.
Train operator LNER has told passengers not to travel north of Newcastle while Avanti West Coast has advised passengers not to travel north of Preston, warning it will be “heavily impacted” by the weather.
Passengers have been warned that services that do run are expected to be extremely busy.
Network Rail said several lines will be closed from 12pm on Monday, with all other routes experiencing a reduced timetable and longer journey times.
Here’s a rundown of the train services from London impacted so far:
Avanti West Coast
Avanti West Coast has warned that train services between London Euston / Birmingham New Street and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh, have been hit by the storm. The train company has advised passengers not to travel north of Preston to locations such as Lancaster, Penrith, Carlisle, Glasgow Central and Edinburgh.
Caledonian Sleeper
Caledonian Sleeper has said it has made the difficult decision to cancel services to the Highlands due to the storm. Services between London Euston and Inverness / Aberdeen / Fort William will be cancelled.
On Monday morning, two Caledonian Sleeper services also had to make adjustments. The Euston to Inverness service was due to arrive at 9.45am while the Euston to Fort William service was scheduled to arrive at 11am.
Caledonian Sleeper services on Monday evening between Euston and Inverness / Aberdeen / Fort William have been cancelled.
Further services are now running with speed restrictions in place. The Glasgow to Euston sleeper train will now arrive at 8.15am on Tuesday morning. Meanwhile the Euston to Glasgow service will arrive at 8.30am on Tuesday.
The Edinburgh to Euston sleeper train will now arrive at 8.15am on Tuesday while the Euston to Edinburgh service will now arrive at 8.30am.
CrossCountry Trains
CrossCountry Trains are also telling customers to not travel to Scotland and advising passengers to defer travelling until Tuesday.
CrossCountry services will not run between Edinburgh and Dundee / Aberdeen all day on Monday. After midday, CrossCountry will not run services between Edinburgh and Glasgow Central.
In London, some services to Aberdeen and Edinburgh have been cancelled from King’s Cross station.
Services will be running between England and Edinburgh, depending on the disruption, but trains are expected to be full.
LNER
LNER are advising that customers do not travel north of Newcastle until the end of Monday.
All stations north of Newcastle will not be served and alternative travel options will be extremely limited due to road closures.
Passengers travelling south of Newcastle are being advised to check before they travel as trains may be delayed and there could be short-notice cancellations.
Lumo
Lumo has warned it will run an extremely limited service between Newcastle and Edinburgh on Monday and these services will be heavily delayed.
The rail operator said it is unable to offer any rail replacement services between the cities as roads will also be affected by the storm.
Northern
Northern has warned that the severe weather means some routes will have a reduced train service, with customers encouraged to plan ahead before travelling. There has already been a reduced service on several trains from Leeds and Bradford Forster Square.
ScotRail
Blanket 50mph speed restrictions have been brought in across all ScotRail routes. Many routes from Glasgow have been reduced to an hourly service. Five services scheduled for after midday have also been cancelled.
TransPennine Express
TransPennine Express has said no services will run north of Carlisle / Newcastle on Monday. Services will not operate between Carlisle and Glasgow Central, Carlisle and Edinburgh, and Newcastle to Edinburgh.
Services between Liverpool Lime Street and Carlisle, and Manchester Airport and Carlisle could also be delayed or cancelled.
