All the latest COVID news and case numbers from around the states and territories

Here's a quick wrap of the COVID-19 news and case numbers from each Australian jurisdiction for the past week, as reported on Friday, October 7, 2022.

The states and territories are now reporting their COVID-19 statistics weekly instead of through the daily updates that were provided from the early days of the pandemic.

This story will be updated throughout the day, so if you do not see your state or territory, check back later.

Victoria

Victoria is reporting its COVID deaths as a seven-day rolling average. 

It reported 43 deaths this week and 9,230 cases, slightly down on last week's figure of 9,458.

Hospitalisations are also down, with 137 people in hospital this week. Nine people are in ICU.

New South Wales

NSW reported 41 COVID-19 deaths in the week to 4pm on Thursday.

The number of people in hospital has fallen from 1,057 to 954, but there are still 23 people in ICU.

There were 10,767 new cases recorded over the past week, a decrease on last week's total of 12,592.

Queensland

Queensland has recorded 14 known COVID-19 deaths in the latest reporting period.

To midnight on October 4, 7,970 new cases were recorded.

There are 96 people in hospital, with two in intensive care.

ACT

The ACT recorded 536 cases of COVID-19 over the past week and no new deaths.

There are 53 people in hospital, including one person in ICU.

South Australia

SA Health has reported another 93 deaths of people with COVID in — but it says only nine of the deaths were recorded in the past week.

The extra cases are from a review of Births, Deaths and Marriages data, which identified 84 COVID-positive people who died between the end of May and mid-September.

There have been 2,720 new cases this week in South Australia, with 45 people in hospital, including three in intensive care.

Western Australia

WA has recorded 11 deaths, dating back to August 14, 2022, and 4,573 new cases this week.

There are 163 people in hospital with COVID-19, including 5 in ICU.

Tasmania

Tasmania has recorded no new deaths and 732 cases of COVID-19 in the last seven days.

There are 11 people in hospital, including four who are being treated specifically for COVID-19, and 1 in ICU.

Mutations in the COVID-19 virus continue to pose a risk.
