Celebrations for the King's coronation will be taking place all over Manchester this weekend. The city will be marking the historic occasion with street parties as well as two public screenings of the ceremony itself on Saturday (May 6).
The coronation of King Charles III and the Queen Consort will be broadcast live from London onto large screens set up in Piccadilly Gardens and Manchester Cathedral where people can watch the ceremony for free. There will be an array of vendors in Piccadilly Gardens selling food, coronation treats and tipples – plus, there will be face painting for little ones keen to join in the fun.
The coronation fun continues into Sunday (May 7), where Piccadilly Gardens will be transformed into a picnic space for the Coronation Big Lunch. Complete with picnic tables, benches and food stalls, the event will be open to everyone.

In the evening, the Coronation Concert will be live streamed in Piccadilly Gardens and residents are invited to enjoy the world-class entertainment and historic event in the city centre with family and friends. Starting on Monday (May 8), to mark His Majesty The King’s Coronation, thousands of organisations across the country will be participating in the Big Help Out – a scheme encouraging people to volunteer and help out their local communities.
There are also street parties planned across the city. In Manchester, 52 roads will be closed for street parties celebrating the coronation over the weekend.
Lord Mayor of Manchester Donna Ludford, said: "The Coronation of His Majesty the King Charles the III and Queen Consort is a landmark occasion, and I am pleased that Manchester is joining in with the Coronation fun. From joining in with the events in Piccadilly Gardens, to celebrating at home, there’s a range of ways that communities all over the city can get involved with the celebrations and I hope that it will be a weekend to remember for all."
