While the rest of the expected Premier League title challengers spent big money during the summer transfer window, Liverpool were once again quiet by comparison.
Manchester City parted with a British-record £100 million for Jack Grealish in an attempt to keep the chasing pack at bay.
In an attempt to close the gap, Chelsea splashed out on Romelu Lukaku and Saul Niguez, while Manchester United made three major acquisitions in the form of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.
By contrast, Liverpool only added Ibrahima Konate, meaning manager Jurgen Klopp will ask a familiar group of players - one that has delivered Champions League and Premier League success in recent campaigns - to go to the well for him again.
The Reds will be without a couple of familiar faces for this campaign though, with Georginio Wijnaldum and Xherdan Shaqiri leaving the club after silverware-laden spells on Merseyside.
In the early weeks of the season it appears 18-year-old Harvey Elliott is ready to be a first-team regular for the Reds. The Anfield faithful are understandably excited to see what he can offer across the campaign.
Nevertheless, Liverpool may have to dip into the mid-season window to keep their positive momentum going into 2022, when Klopp will once again hope to have the team in the hunt for major prizes.
When does the January transfer window open?
The winter window is set to open on Saturday, January 1 and close on Monday, January 31.
