All the events taking place in Bristol today for Make Music Day 2019

Bristol will come alive with music today (Friday, June 21) for the annual Make Music Day.

Taking place in a variety of spaces, both indoors and out in the open, a large selection of recitals, shows and gigs will take place across the city, ranging from open mic sessions to samba band marches.

Locations taking part include Cabot Circus, Bristol Airport, Millennium Square, SS Great Britain, St Mary Redcliffe and more.

A range of bands will be performing on the upper ground balcony of Cabot Circus between 5pm and 7pm, putting a spring in step of shoppers, while commuters and visitors at Bristol Airport will be treated to live music between 9am and 3.30pm.

A samba band will be performing in Millennium Square between 12pm and 12.45pm before the Bath-based Orchestra of Everything take centre stage between 1.15pm and 2pm.

The full schedule of events can be found on Make Music Day's website .

What is Make Music Day?

Make Music Day is a global, grassroots festival that celebrates all genres and styles of music, and is free to anyone who wants to take part, whether performing or simply enjoying the shows.

With more than 120 countries taking part in the long-standing annual celebration of music, this year the UK is expected to hold in excess of 1,600 Make Music Day performances arranged for free by members of the public, performers and promoters.

The festivities don’t stop with the flagship events, however. There are also performances, guerrilla gigs and gatherings right across the country covering every kind of music imaginable for the summer solstice.

A spokesperson for Make Music Day said: "Part of the beauty of Make Music Day is that if you can’t find your favourite music near you, or if you have a burning desire to perform, or even if you just want to enjoy a day of music with friends, you can become a Make Music Day maker by organising your own event.

"This year’s Make Music Day organisers have teamed up with Together TV to spread the Make Music Day joy further through broadcast and online content.

"So if you’re organising an event head here to find out how you can get involved."
