All the European travel destinations banning UK visitors over Covid rate fears

UK holidaymakers have been concerned about the travel traffic light system which places overseas nations into green, amber or red destinations.

Fully-vaccinated passengers are now able to ignore the 10-day quarantine rule on return to the UK if returning from amber list destinations.

This mirrors the requirements for green list resorts with regulations stipulating holidaymakers produce a negative Covid test pre-arrival and another PCR check on day two of their return, which must be pre-booked.

This category covers popular holiday destinations such as Greece and Portugal's mainland. But there are fears that Spain could soon be added to the newly-arranged amber-plus category, which DOES insist on a 10-day quarantine period - even for fully-jabbed adults.

But UK government regulations are not the only curbs on travel - some countries are refusing to allow British visitors to enter because of Covid infection fears.

The full list of European destinations which have banned UK travellers are:

  • Austria
  • Belarus
  • Belgium
  • Bulgaria
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Slovenia
  • Sweden

The sole green list destination is Bulgaria, which announced a block on UK visitors soon after the UK travel rules review.

However, some destinations are keen to welcome UK visitors as soon as possible.

Hietasaari Kristiina, senior director, Travel/Visit Finland, said: “It is great to see the recent UK travel plans such as the opening up of travel to ‘Amber’ countries for those who are fully vaccinated without the need for quarantine upon their return.

"It feels like a step in the right direction, and we hope to see more safe travel opportunities continue.

"Finland offers the space, cleanliness and stand-out offerings that allow travellers to truly enjoy immersive Finnish experiences.

"We don’t yet know exactly when we’ll be able to welcome you, but we are hopeful that it won’t be too long. Visit Finland is eager to welcome UK travellers back to the Happiest Country in the World.”
