With Elden Ring launching this week, fans are excited to get their heads stuck into another story-rich world developed by FromSoftware.
The developer's previous titles such as Dark Souls and Bloodborne were renowned for their in-depth and complicated stories which could only be truly understood by the most hardcore players who had to piece it all together themselves.
Both games were known to do this by leaving bits of the story in the background and throwing hints at players through item descriptions and vague dialogue from NPCs.

While the full story and lore behind Elden Ring will only be fully discovered once the game is released, FromSoftware has left us enough breadcrumbs to piece large parts of the story and setting already.
What we know about Elden Ring's world
The Lands Between will be home to a story created by George R.R. Martin rich with dark fantasy elements.
Players will take the role of The Tarnished, a descendant of a group of people who were banished from the Lands Between presumably aeons ago.
Eldens Ring's website states that: "The guidance of grace will be brought to the Tarnished who were spurned by the grace of gold and exiled from the Lands Between. Ye dead who yet live, your grace long lost, follow the path to the Lands Between beyond the foggy sea to stand before the Elden Ring."
There will be six domains, each ruled by a demigod corrupted by the shards of the Elden Ring - the Tarnished is tasked with defeating the demigods and collecting all the shards to restore the Elden Ring and become the Elden Lord.
The History of the Lands Between
So far, we know that a devastating war took place in the Lands Between between the children of Marika who were Demigods.
The war began after a group of unknown assassins murdered a large number of Demigods - one of the key figures killed in this attack was Godwyn the Golden whose death somehow led to the Elden Ring becoming fractured.
As the war carried on, it reached a stalemate that seems to be unresolvable unless the Tarnished restores the Elden Ring - although it's not clear how this will fix things yet.
The Tarnished will be forced to relive the war, known as the Shattering which will see players fight alongside key figures in the conflict and hopefully become the next Elden Lord.
