All the Edinburgh road closures on Saturday due to Tour of Britain

Traffic in Edinburgh will be affected on Saturday as the AJ Bell Tour of Britain has kicked off and will soon be making its way to the city.

The AJ Bell Tour of Britain sees the 107 of the UK's dedicated cyclists power across the the nation starting at Penzance and ending in Aberdeen.

This is the first time in two years that the event has taken place, after the 2020 event was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It’s an eight-stage event altogether, and after starting the first leg on Sunday September 6, they will be in Edinburgh on Saturday September 11.

It will be quite the spectacle with over 100 cyclists joining the leg but it means that road closures are imminent.

For most of the stage a rolling road closure will be enforced around the city.

This means roads on and around the race route will be closed for a short period in which it takes the race to pass by – usually about 10 to 15 minutes around the estimated time of arrival and indicated by police escort vehicles.

To prepare for the event, some road closures in Edinburgh will take place on Friday October 10.

From Queen’s Drive from Horse Wynd to, and including, Duke's Walk will be closed from 8pm on Friday September 10 until 9:30pm on Saturday September 11.

From 4.45am to 7pm on Saturday, Queen's Drive's closure will affect Holyrood Park Road Roundabout to Holyrood Gait.

And from 2.30pm to 4.30pm on Saturday, Queen's Drive-from Holyrood Gail to Horse Wynde will be affected.

The following roads are affected From 2.30pm to 4.30.

  • Lasswade Road
  • Kirk Brae
  • Braefoot Terrace
  • Liberton Road (from Braefoot Terrace to Craigmillar Park)
  • Craigmillar Park
  • Mayfield Gardens (From Craigmillar Park to East Mayfield)
  • East Mayfield
  • Dalkeith Road (From East Mayfield to Holyrood Park Road)
  • Holyrood Park Road

In addition, the car parks within Holyrood Park will also be closed.

There will also be parking restriction on Saturday September 11 from 9am to 5pm on Lasswade Road, Kirk Brae, East Mayfield and Holyrood Park.

From 8pm on September 10 8pm to 9.30pm on Saturday, Queen's Drive and Duke's Walk will also have parking restrictions.
