All the direct holiday destinations you can fly to from Glasgow Airport right now

With this brutal, grey, thundery weather, we could all do with getting whisked away to somewhere a little sunnier.

And foreign travel restrictions are set to be relaxed in the coming days, with the government announcing seven countries are to be added to its green list.

Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Slovakia, Latvia, Romania and Norway will move to the quarantine-free tier.

Meanwhile, the status of India, Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates will switch from red to amber, meaning arrivals from those countries will no longer have to spend 11 nights at a quarantine hotel.

Mexico, Georgia, La Reunion and Mayotte will be put on the red list.

So far, Scotland has followed suit and aligned its international travel rules to the rest of the UK.

As expected, it was also confirmed that arrivals from France will no longer need to self-isolate.

The changes come into force at 4am on Sunday.

As we reported, there were fears in the travel industry that Spain - the most popular overseas destination for UK holidaymakers - could be added to the red list.

The Government announced it would keep its amber status, but urged travellers arriving in the UK from Spain to take a PCR test for the mandatory pre-departure test "as a precaution against the increased prevalence of the virus and variants in the country".

Many travellers use cheaper lateral flow tests to meet the testing requirement.

In a statement, the Government warned that UK clinicians and scientists "remain in close contact with their counterparts in Spain to keep abreast of the latest data and picture of cases".
