'All the criticism' - Patrice Evra delivers honest Liverpool verdict

Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra insists 'Liverpool are back' following their successive Premier League wins against Manchester City and West Ham.

After defeating Pep Guardiola's side at Anfield on Sunday afternoon thanks to a goal from Mohamed Salah late in the second half, the Reds followed up their best performance of a stuttering season by defeating the Hammers by the same scoreline on Wednesday.

Those victories mean, despite being winless from September 2 and October 15 in the Premier League, Jurgen Klopp's side are up to seventh in the table and only four points behind Chelsea in fourth.

Evra, who won five Premier League titles during a glittering career at Old Trafford, believes the Reds are back to their best after their disappointing start to the season and also credited Klopp for delivering some much-needed home truths to his players.

Speaking on Amazon Prime, the Frenchman said: “A massive win. It wouldn’t count, the victory after the Man City game, if they didn’t win tonight, so they are still here.

“I say before the game. If they lost against Man City, then they can say goodbye to the Premier League title. But because of that game, they are going to have hope because, even Klopp was really harsh on them and they deserve all the criticism.

“Last year, they showed so much great football and so now I feel like Liverpool are back. They win and that’s the most important. Nunez scored and everything is going to be okay for Liverpool now.”

Prior to last week's game against Man City, Klopp had ruled his side out of contending for the Premier League title as they were flagging way behind table-topping Arsenal. However, the victory over City will no doubt send a firm reminder to the rest of the division that the Reds are capable of rising up the table in the immediate weeks before the World Cup.

Up next for the Reds in the Premier League is a trip to Nottingham Forest, while games against Leeds United and Southampton are both scheduled over the next three weeks. Klopp's side will also visit Tottenham Hotspur at the start of next month.
