All the countries on the 'Red' foreign holiday list for travel

The Government has announced that lockdown restrictions will ease from May 17 which means that foreign holidays are no longer illegal.

But only 12 countries have made the initial "green list" where people can holiday abroad without having to quarantine on return to the UK.

The majority of countries remain on the "red list" which means you must not travel to these places for leisure purposes - and anyone returning to the UK from these destinations face the most restrictive quarantine measures, including isolating in a managed Government quarantine hotel at a cost of £1750 for 10 days.

Secretary of State for Transport Grant Shapps has announced that three new countries will be added to the red list from May 12 - Nepal, The Maldives and Turkey.

The traffic light system - with countries rated as either green, amber or red - is established on the basis of current coronavirus rates and vaccinations in each country.

The Government says they will review the list every three weeks.
