Fortnite: Battle Royale might not be making any giant announcements at E3 (or so Epic Games says), but it’s still using the biggest stage in gaming for a big celebration of all things Fortnite. Chief among these is a big ProAm tournament featuring 50 duos of celebrities and streamers duking it out for $3 million for charity. Epic has been slowly releasing the names of the players–by this point, we’ve got ourselves a complete list. There are representatives from sports, music and acting, and you can look here if you want some headshots to go along with the names.
If you find yourself confused, similar to the way I feel when confronted by this list, note that the streamers are on the left and the celebrities are on the right. Also, the streamers have weirder names, though DJs also have weird names. In one sense I feel old because I recognize just about zero of these celebrities, but in another sense I feel young because I recognize more of the streamers. Does that make me cool? ProAm feels like the right format for a game that’s still figuring out what it’s relationship to the competitive world of esports is going to be. It’s a tournament, no doubt, but one that leans on entertainment as much as it does on high-end skill. It’s appropriate for a game where the only vehicle is a shopping cart.
