Pubs, bars and gyms are among the businesses that must close as part of the new local lockdown restrictions being placed on the entire Liverpool City Region.
Boris Johnson addressed the House of Commons this afternoon where he detailed the changes for the Liverpool City Region which is made up of Liverpool, Sefton, Wirral, Knowsley, St Helens and Halton.
Tougher measures will come into force from this Wednesday, October 14 when the Liverpool City Region will be placed under the "very high risk" level on the Government's Covid chart.
Before going on to set out the restrictions for the region, Boris Johnson said: "I take no pleasure is imposing these restrictions on these businesses."
Measures will be under "constant review" with a sunset clause in place with reviews every four weeks.
Mr Johnson said: "I've spoke to local authorities in the Liverpool city region and they will move into the very high alert level from Wednesday
"Pubs, bars, gyms and leisure centres, betting shops, casinos and adult gaming centres will all close.

"I'd like to put on record my thanks to steve rotherham for their co-operation in very difficult circumstances."
News of closures across the region were first reported last night which caused much speculation over the finer details of the rules.
Gym owners have today described the move to shut their businesses as "catastrophic" and said it is "heartbreaking" for the thousands of people who work within the fitness industry.
Owner of Absolute Body Solutions Connor O'Brien also emphasised the importance gyms have on people's mental health.
Mr Johnson also warned the house that the weeks and months ahead will be "difficult".
