All South Ayrshire municipal golf courses are now closed

All eight municipal golf courses in South Ayrshire have just been closed completely.

South Ayrshire Council acted at lunchtime today after Scottish Golf, a governing body of the sport, requested no play.

The council had closed all clubhouses at the start of the week, but Belleisle, Seafield and Dalmilling in Ayr, Lochgreen, Darley and Fullarton, and Maybole and Girvan, were still attracting golfers.

They had imposed restrictions including no bunker rakes and cup holes placed upside down.

Then on Monday they increased the clampdown, restricting golfers to three-balls, and spreading out start times.

But today the South Ayrshire Golf Group said: "Following the latest Government advice, we have closed the golf courses with immediate effect.
"We will be removing all course furniture over the next day or so and will be undertaking a reduced maintenance programme to ensure that we can return the courses into full playing order once the restrictions are eased/lifted.
"Please respect the Government advice and stay at home."
