All smiles as Stirling named as the happiest place in Scotland

Stirling has been crowned happiest place in Scotland according to an annual poll.

The ‘Happy at Home’ index, which started ten years ago, is published by estate agents Rightmove every year.

It canvassed 21,000 people across the UK on their views and Stirling made the top spot in Scotland, with Edinburgh in fourth place, Glasgow seventh and Aberdeen tenth.

The index includes friendliness and community spirit; whether people feel they can be themselves; nature and green spaces; opportunities locally to develop skills; and amenities including schools, restaurants, shops and sports facilities.

Stirling MP Alyn Smith said: “This comes as no surprise to anyone who’s lived in Stirling - there’s so much going for this bustling city right at the heart of Scotland. We’ve fantastic towns and villages across the region, with world-famous natural beauty spots, cafes, restaurants and sights.

“Beautiful lochs, hills, forests and wildlife await in our very own Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park.

“Stirling is also rich in heritage and culture, whether it’s a visit to Stirling Castle or the Wallace Monument, a trip to the Bannockburn Experience, seeing a gig at our Tolbooth live events and music venue - or attending a rave in our Old Town Jail - we have something for everyone.

“We’re punching above our weight in building Scotland’s dynamic future, with world-class research at the University of Stirling, great teaching at Forth Valley College, and businesses like Codebase who really show what’s possible.

"We’re the only Scottish city still in the running to be UK City of Culture and have big plans to lead Forth Valley to net carbon and a just transition. I’m proud to represent this diverse and welcoming community.”
