All pupils in two year groups at Bassaleg School have been asked to self-isolate following a positive case of Covid-19 in the sixth form.
In a letter addressed to parents and carers on Monday, the school said it had been made aware of a confirmed case of the virus in the morning.
Consequently, it stated that all pupils in Years 12 and 13 must self-isolate for 14 days in accordance with guidance from Welsh Government and Newport City Council.
This means that the pupils will be in self-isolation until November 9, the date on which Wales' firebreak lockdown comes to an end.
The letter, signed by headteacher Victoria Lambe, said: "I was notified this morning of confirmed case of Covid-19 in the sixth form. In line with guidance from the Welsh Government, Environmental Health and Newport City Council all pupils in Years 12 and 13 will need to self-isolate for 14 days".
The school confirmed that all close contacts of the case have been identified and are receiving "appropriate" advice, and that there is no need for action from any other year groups apart from Years 12 and 13.
However, the school has requested that parents and students remain vigilant for any potential symptoms of the virus, including a new cough, a fever or a change to the sense of taste or smell.
On October 20, all pupils in Year 10 at Bassaleg School were also informed they would be required to self-isolate for 14 days following a positive Covid case in the year group.
