All set for Bangkok meeting

Patrick Baumann, left, president of the Global Association of International Sport Federations, and Nis Hatt, managing director of SportAccord.

Almost 1,500 sportspersons have confirmed their participation in the SportAccord 2018 in Bangkok.

The six-day summit featuring sports organisations and sports-related industries is going to take place tomorrow at CentralWorld and host Thailand is ready to welcome all the participants, who, apart from their business, will witness the Thai cultures.

"So far, more than 1,450 people have registered to take part in the event. Apart from the meeting and sports festival, they will have a chance to visit historical sites including Ayutthaya, the most popular site due to the Bupphaesannivas [Love Destiny] drama," said Weerasak Kowsurat, Minister of Tourism and Sports.

Meanwhile, Patrick Baumann, president of the Global Association of International Sport Federations (GAISF), who arrived in Thailand yesterday, said that it would be an important week for all the sports federations.

"En-route to #Bangkok for @sportaccord -- a very important week for #GAISF member International Federations as well as host cities, organising committees, media and businesses, united in the goal of driving positive international change through sport #SportAccord," the president tweeted.

Earlier, he said that he is looking forward to an exceptional week in Bangkok with over 90 International Federations coming together to lead the change and develop the sporting landscape.

Also joining the summit will be Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee. The IOC boss is due to arrive on Monday and will meet Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Tuesday at Government House.
