'All rise' for social justice: Gregory Porter lifts his voice in divided times

ENCORE! © FRANCE 24

Gregory Porter has established himself as one of the major voices of 21st century jazz in the space of just ten years. As he releases his sixth album "All Rise", Porter tells us about the need to "raise your fists in the air" in non-violent protest as we discuss the Black Lives Matter Movement. This latest record also delves into personal experience, as he re-writes his own experience when it comes to mixed-race relationships.

Plus, the Grammy award-winning artist tells us how Nat King Cole came to be an imaginary father figure for him during childhood and how he's passing on life lessons to his own son, occasionally through music.
