Pubs, restaurants and cafes will be forced to shut as England goes into full lockdown, the PM has announced.
Restaurants can continue delivery or takeaway - but takeaway or click and collect of alcohol will no longer be allowed.
Alcohol can only be sold in shops after people previously ordering takeaway drinks were seen grouping around venues.
Under the new rules coming into force, non essential retail hospitality and personal care services must shut if not already closed.
The new rules will come into effect in law as soon as possible and are expected to remain in place until the middle of February.
It comes after Boris Johnson was given advice today showing cases rising rapidly in every part of country.
Measures apply across all of England including the Scilly Isles, currently in Tier 1.
In Tier 4, hospitality venues such as cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars and social clubs had to close.
Businesses were still able to provide food and drink for takeaway (until 11pm), click-and-collect, drive-through or delivery.
Tier 3 government rules said bars, pubs, cafes, restaurants, and social clubs must close except for takeaway, delivery and click and collect services.
This included restaurants and bars within hotels or member’s clubs.
Exemptions applied for certain settings including cafes and canteens at hospitals, care homes, and workplace canteens.
Venues were able to sell takeaway drinks or drinks through a delivery service, click-and-collect or drive-through.
