All Points East cancels 2020 edition over coroanvirus: 'There was simply no alternative'

All Points East is the latest major festival to call off its 2020 edition amid the coronavirus crisis.

The Victoria Park event, which was set to take place in May, had already confirmed the likes of Tame Impala, Kraftwerk and Thom Yorke on its line-up.

However, like many other major events in the UK and around the world, it has been forced into postponement.

In a statement, festival organisers said: “We have a responsibility to our staff, fans, event workers, suppliers and sponsors and for this reason, we felt compelled to seek answers to all our questions before making this final decision.

“However, safety always comes first and what is happening across the world clearly takes precedent and there was simply no alternative.”

Organisers also cited the “distraction” All Points East would cause to the emergency service and the NHS, were it to go ahead, among the reasons for its postponement.

Ticket-holders will be contacted directly regarding refunds. The statement added: “If you have not been contacted about a refund by your ticket agent by April 9 please get in touch with them directly, bearing in mind they will be extremely busy at this time.”

Plans for the 2021 edition of All Points East will be announced “shortly”.

The festival has followed in the steps of Glastonbury, Isle of Wight and Download, all of which have been forced to abandon their 2020 editions.
