The government embarked on stepped-up containment measures, asking all people entering Japan from all countries and a region to isolate themselves at home, or in their hotels or other accommodations, for 14 days after arrival.
They are also asked to refrain from using public transportation amid the global pandemic of the new coronavirus.
The government has expanded its list of countries and a region subject to entry refusal to 73, including the United States and Britain.
Japanese nationals coming back from these countries and regions are to be tested for infection with the virus, whether or not they display any symptoms.
