All of Wales' Blue Flag beaches in 2019

Wales is home to some beautiful beaches and more than 100 of them have been rewarded for their environmental efforts.

Around the country, 86 coastal areas have met the high standards needed to receive the Blue Flag, Green Coast Award and Seaside Award – with a total of 102 awards for beaches in the Wales Coast Awards.

Wales once again has more Blue Flags per mile than anywhere else in the UK and there are now 44 coveted Blue Flags flying at 40 Welsh beaches, three marinas and one boat tour operator.

A Blue Flag is a world-renowned eco-label owned by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). For more than three decades, Blue Flag has had a transformational impact on water quality, environmental awareness, protection, safety and services.

There were also 18 beaches in Wales that gained the Green Coast Award, recognising the ‘hidden gems’ along our coastline, along with another 40 that achieved the Seaside Award for their standard of water quality and facilities.

The award winners are being celebrated today (Wednesday, May 15) at a national ceremony hosted by Conwy County Borough Council. The event is taking place at Porth Eirias which has been newly designated as a bathing water and has received a Seaside Award for the first time.

A full list of awards can be found on the Keep Wales Tidy website.
