More Transport for Wales trains are cancelled on Monday as disruption continues for third day

Transport for Wales has cancelled more trains on Monday as it enters a third day of disruption.

Transport for Wales (TfW) was due to roll out 186 extra Sunday services this weekend but the franchise has been plagued by cancellations over the last two days.

Around 30 services were cancelled on Saturday and 11 more on Sunday which TfW said was due to a lack of staff.

Now further services have been cancelled on Monday and in the early hours of Tuesday.

Ten services have so far been cancelled on Monday and one on Tuesday.

Transport for Wales said 1,021 services are currently due to run as planned on Monday.

A spokesman said: "Every effort will be made to reinstate any cancelled services."

Last summer the company was issued with a formal "performance improvement notice" due to the number of cancellations.

TfW launched a new timetable on Sunday with more than 180 extra services. It was described as the "most significant changes to train times on our network in the last ten years".

The new services mean that fewer drivers and conductors will take Sunday as a rest day.

It is understood that the Sunday services depend on drivers and conductors volunteering to work on Sundays.

It meant 11 services were cancelled on Sunday and others were disrupted with trains not stopping at all stations.

Roger Luke claimed the new 8.05am train from Maesteg to Bridgend didn't turn up on Sunday.

He said: "The first train to Bridgend was 8.05am but the message disappeared and the train never turned up. First Sunday train in decades just didn't turn up. People either drove to Bridgend or caught an expensive taxi ride."

Cancellations planned for Sunday evening affect people travelling to Fishguard Harbour, Clarbeston Road, Pembroke Dock, Maesteg, Carmarthen, and Swansea

A number of Great Western Railway (GWR) trains were also cancelled on Sunday after it also introduced a new timetable.

In a statement on its website, GWR said: "An amended timetable is in place affecting some journeys between London and Penzance, London and Swansea, and on some other GWR routes. Where trains are able to run they are expected to be very busy."
