All of the strikes in the UK in August that may cause disruption

Whether or not you're a train passenger, you can't have missed the numerous strikes which have disrupted the UK's railways this summer. And they're not over yet.

Unions including the RMT and Aslef will be taking more industrial action later this month. Aside from transport, there are also upcoming strikes involving bus drivers, port workers and barristers.

"Industrial action is 'official' if it is formally backed by a trade union and members of that union are taking part in it," NI Direct explains.

"If you're involved in industrial action against your employer, you'll probably be in breach of your employment contract and you are therefore unlikely to be paid when taking industrial action. However, you will be protected against being dismissed for taking industrial action provided your union follows the right procedure when organising it."

Here's a calendar of the strike action coming up in August:

Saturday August 13

  • Aslef union of rail staff striking from the following train companies: Arriva Rail London, Avanti West Coast, Crosscountry, Greater Anglia (including Stansted Express), Great Western, Hull Trains, LNER, London Overground, Southeastern and West Midlands Trains
  • Unite members employed by DHL in Scotland and Northern Ireland will strike from 6am, affecting Sainsbury's stores supplies

Sunday 14 August

  • Unite members employed by DHL in Scotland and Northern Ireland will strike from 6am, affecting Sainsbury's stores supplies

Monday 15 August

  • Unite members employed by DHL in Scotland and Northern Ireland will strike from 6am, affecting Sainsbury's stores supplies
  • Criminal Bar Association (CBA) of England and Wales

Tuesday 16 August

  • Unite members employed by DHL in Scotland and Northern Ireland will strike from 6am, affecting Sainsbury's stores supplies
  • Criminal Bar Association (CBA) of England and Wales

Wednesday 17 August

  • Unite members employed by DHL in Scotland and Northern Ireland will strike from 6am, affecting Sainsbury's stores supplies
  • Criminal Bar Association (CBA) of England and Wales

Thursday 18 August

  • Strike action by Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union, the Transport Salaried Staffs Association (TSSA) and Unite affecting 13 rail companies

  • Criminal Bar Association (CBA) of England and Wales
  • Unite members employed by DHL in Scotland and Northern Ireland will strike from 6am, affecting Sainsbury's stores supplies

Friday 19 August

  • RMT strike on London Underground
  • Unite bus drivers employed by London United will strike
  • Unite members in waste, recycling, and street cleaning in Edinburgh
  • Criminal Bar Association (CBA) of England and Wales
  • Unite members employed by DHL in Scotland and Northern Ireland will strike from 6am, affecting Sainsbury's stores supplies

Saturday 20 August

Sunday 21 August
