All of Scotland's next bank holidays as King Charles' Coronation marks extra time off

Everyone loves an extra wee day off work, right? And with a number of bank holidays yet to come, you may be off on certain dates you may not even be aware.

This year, there is an additional bank holiday date in the calendar due to King Charles' Coronation next month. The ceremony will hold an important place in history, with many given the day off the celebrate the special occasion.

His Majesty holds the power to appoint special days as bank holidays in any year, with Scottish bank holidays otherwise set by the Scottish Ministers. The days are the same for the whole of Scotland. But when are the upcoming bank holiday dates this year?

All the remaining bank holiday dates in 2023

  • Monday, May 1 - Early May bank holiday
  • Monday, May 8 - King Charles' Coronation bank holiday
  • Monday, May 29 - Spring bank holiday
  • Monday, August 7 - Summer bank holiday
  • Thursday, November 30 - St Andrew's Day
  • Monday, December 25 - Christmas Day
  • Tuesday, December 26 - Boxing Day

Who is entitled to bank holidays in Scotland?

Unfortunately, not everyone is entitled to paid leave on bank holidays or public holidays.

If your place of work is closed on bank holidays, your employer can make you take them as part of your annual leave entitlement.

If you are unsure it is best to check with your employer.
