'Thank god my kids weren't there': Cars smash into Sydney homes

Witnesses say the car spun out of control and reversed into the house.

Two separate families had luck on their side today when by chance they avoided injury as cars ploughed through their Sydney homes.

In the south-west suburb of Edmondson Park, a mother said she "thanks God" she and her children were in the right place at the right time to avoid a car that came through their bedroom.

Witnesses say the car appeared to get stuck in reverse before it smashed into the home.

The mother, who did not wish to be named, said she was in the living room with her children — four and six — when she heard an all mighty crash.

"I opened the door of the bedroom and the whole car was in," she said.

"It was a very frightening experience and I thank God that my kids were not there, the most important thing."

The 34-year-old female provisional driver was not injured.

"She was very anxious," the mother said.

"She said the car was out of her control and banged into her house."

'Luckily I went to bed'

Another family in the north-western suburb of Windsor were feeling thankful they were in bed in the early hours of the morning as a car tore through their living room at 5:00am, scattering their couches and other furniture.

There were several inside the house at the time but no-one was up for an early Saturday start.

Jackie Van Trump, who lives in the home, said her family was shaken up by the incident.

"I was sleeping in my room and then all of a sudden there's a car in my backyard … in my house," she said.

"It was like a bang, a crash, glass shattered everywhere … woke up the neighbours, it woke me up, woke up the family.

"Everyone is fine luckily … I was downstairs about five minutes before it happened … luckily I went upstairs and went to bed.

"But if I was down there for another five minutes it would have been a different story."

The car has been removed and authorities are working to stabilise the wall.

The 42-year-old male driver of the car was not injured in the crash and produced a negative result in a roadside breath test.

Inquiries into the crash are ongoing.
