
All Nippon Airways Co. began operating a passenger plane carrying medical supplies, such as masks and protective clothing on Wednesday. According to ANA, it is the first Japanese airline company to place cargo on passenger seats.
While demand for flights is decreasing because of the spread of the coronavirus, there is still a demand for shipping, so ANA aims to make efficient use of its passenger planes.
Medical supplies were buckled into the seats on a flight from Shanghai to Haneda Airport in Tokyo on Wednesday. The plane can carry up to 23 tons, which is about 1.4 times more than utilizing a cargo compartment underneath the floor of a passenger plane alone.
