Acura makes some excellent vehicles like the NSX supercar and midsized RDX crossover SUV. Unfortunately, Acura is often overlooked by consumers who flock to Audi and BMW. I think it’s merely a lack of brand knowledge that more consumers don’t purchase the RDX and other Acura vehicles. The good news is the RDX has seen strong sales, and it has certainly helped the brand image. However, their sedan lineup was a bit bland and in need of some help, which is precisely what the stunning 2021 Acura TLX aims to do.
The 2021 Acura TLX is one of those cars you need to look at twice to make sure you’re not dreaming, as it features an absolutely stunning design. They give it an aggressive muscular stance with a wide rear end, low roofline, and stretched wheelbase. Relative to the previous model, the new TLX features a 3.7-inch longer wheelbase, 2.2-inch wider body, lower roof (-0.6 in.) and an extended dash-to-axle dimension (+7.8 in.).
The previous TLX wasn’t known for having the most potent engines, and Acura fixed that too with this all-new 2021 model. The new standard engine is a 2.0-liter turbo, with a peak output of 272 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque, giving the 2021 TLX dramatic gains in horsepower (+66) and torque (+98 lb-ft. at peak, +123 lb-ft. at 1,500 rpm) when compared to the previous model’s naturally aspirated 2.4-liter 4-cylinder.
For those who desire even more power, Acura will offer an optional transverse-mounted V6, utilizing a dual scroll turbocharger and electronic wastegate to deliver immediate, high-torque. Compared to the outgoing, naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6, the new engine provides dramatic gains in peak horsepower and torque, including a more than 50-percent increase in low-end torque. Final specifications for the new engine, including power output, will be released closer to launch.
Both engines will be paired with Acura’s 10-speed automatic, with standard paddle shifters. This 10-speed will allow drivers to take full advantage of both turbocharged engines’ high-torque output with the 10-speeds wide gear ratio range. This transmission is even capable of four-gear direct downshifts for maximum acceleration potential when cruising the highway.

Pricing is expected to be in the mid-$30,000 range and should hit dealers sometime in Spring of 2021. We eagerly await its arrival as it could be the car we’ve all been waiting for from Acura.
