Actor John Howard returns to the Sydney Theatre Company stage to join Robyn Nevin in a production of All My Sons, Arthur Miller’s first theatrical success. Kip Williams, who directed Nevin in STC’s Suddenly Last Summer (2015), is at the helm of the play.
Howard and Nevin play Joe and Kate Kellar, a couple who seem like a mid-century American success story. They live in prosperous suburbia, in an era of optimism, just after World War II. Joe runs a business, Kate looks after the home, and their son will inherit it all. But there’s a secret that hasn’t been aired, until Miller dismantles the American dream. The issues of loss, purpose and money that the play tackles are remain relevant and devastating for contemporary audiences.
