All League of Legends level borders, explained

While leveling up in League of Legends may not grant as many rewards as it used to, you can still look forward to some fancy decorations like level borders.

Every time you reach a particular level in League, you’ll unlock a level border that will adorn your Summoner Icon. If you want to know how to unlock each border or when you’ll unlock your favorite, check out the information below.

Level borders are similar to Ranked borders in League—both are decorations that surround your profile picture while in a lobby. Unlike ranked borders, you won’t have to reach a skill division to unlock any of the level borders.

Instead, you unlock leveling borders roughly every 25 levels, starting from level one and reaching all the way to 500. To level up in League, all you need to do is play the game consistently. You can play Summoner’s Rift, ARAM, or even Arena to level up your account. You’ll earn a fixed amount of level XP after every game.

How to level up fast in Level of Legends

ARAM and Arena matches are typically shorter than Summoner’s Rift, so spamming these game modes is your best bet if your goal is to level up as fast as possible. But there’s no rush, so I recommend playing whatever you fancy and not even thinking about your level.

If you’re desperate to get a specific border, you can always buy XP boosts via the store, but these cost real-world money. A days boost doubles your base XP earned from each game, while a win boost adds 216 XP per win. You can also stack these boosts for even more XP.

Days Days boosts double the base XP earned from a game. For example, if you earned 150 XP, a day boost would add an additional 150 XP boost to your account for a total of 300 XP.

If you just created a new account, you’ll receive a 30-day XP boost for playing the game three days in a row and winning one.

I’ve played League on and off for over 10 years and still haven’t reached level 500, so prepare for a serious grind if you want to unlock absolutely everything. My best advice is to focus on having fun and improving your rank rather than hitting the next level.

There are currently a total of 21 level borders that players can unlock by playing League. Each border has a unique color scheme and is themed around a different region, religion, city, skin line, or culture from the world of Runeterra.

Once you unlock a level border, you can permanently access it at any time by clicking on your profile picture in the top right of the League client. You can freely switch between any of these styles at will, so we suggest matching your border to your icon for some pleasing synergy.

Here’s a table that showcases all 21 borders and the respective level you need to reach to unlock them:

How to change level borders in League of Legends

If you fancy a change or don’t like the look of your new border despite spending hours to level up, you can always change it to a different one. I’ve purposely “de-leveled” myself on many occasions because I have a soft spot for the Bilgewater border. Green is my favorite color—what more can I say?
