All-Island League plans 'continue to proceed apace' despite IFA opposition

ALL-ISLAND League plans ‘continue to proceed apace’, according to those driving the project.

While the IFA last year ruled out sanctioning the involvement of Irish League clubs, hopes of a merger remain in place.

Kieran Lucid, the Kerry entrepreneur spearheading the venture, intends hosting a three-day stakeholders summit later this month.

The meetings on January 28, 29 and 30 will be facilitated by the Dutch company Hypercube, which was enrolled late last year to collate data from interested clubs.

Those meetings in Belfast, Dublin and Dundalk will be the first of four stakeholder summits planned by the All-Island League Advocacy Group before late March.

“The purpose is to research the appetite for and viability of cross-border competition as a means of improving the welfare of domestic football,” their statement read.

The group - along with Hypercube - is also seeking meetings with the FAI and IFA, and government north and south of the border.

“We encourage all of those with an interest in the project to join us at the relevant meeting to make your voice heard,” a spokesman said.
