All-Ireland winners medal stolen from Wexford home as family appeal for information

Gardai are investigating after an All-Ireland winners medal was stolen from a house in Co Wexford.

The medal was stolen from the Power family home in Farnatrane, Oylegate, Co Wexford on November 25. The family have taken to social media to appeal for any information regarding the missing medal.

Gardaí in Wexford have echoed these sentiments and are asking anyone with any information to make themselves known.

A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí in Wexford continue to appeal for information following the theft of a sporting medal on Friday, 25th November 2022.

"The theft is believed to have occurred between 4pm and 7pm following a burglary at a residence in Farnatrane, Oylegate, Co Wexford.

"An All-Ireland Hurling winner’s medal from 1948 was stolen along with other items of jewellery.

"This medal is of significant personal value to the victim.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Gardaí at Enniscorthy 053 924 2580, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."

Waterford hurler Daithí de Paor (David Power) won the medal back in 1948 when the Déise lifted the Liam MacCarthy Cup for the very first time.

In the 74 years since that game was played, Waterford have won the All-Ireland senior hurling title just once. That victory came in October 1959 when the Déise got the better of Kilkenny in a replay.

After retiring from hurling, de Paor was a well respected and long-serving county official in Waterford.

David passed away in 1986 and since then ownership of the medal has been passed to his daughter Siún.
