All-Ireland qualifiers: Capacities increased for this weekend's games

The GAA has announced that almost 8,000 fans will be allowed to attend this weekend’s All-Ireland Hurling qualifiers.

A total of 3,500 fans will be allowed to attend the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick for Clare against Cork with a further 900 more permitted at Semple Stadium where Waterford will take on Galway.

On Thursday, fans and officials were left bemused as a crowd capacity cap of 500 was placed on both games despite the fact both venues had hosted larger numbers at previous games this year.

However, fans have been advised that tickets are available here and are in high demand so they are urged to get to the front of the queue to avoid disappointment.

Normally, these games would have been played as double headers at one location but due to Covid-19 and restrictions that is unable to happen at the present time.

Keeping the games apart may prove to be a masterstroke by the GAA – who have been criticised recently – as they look to give fans their escapism fix by attending the games this weekend.

Players will also be delighted by the news as Clare look to defeat Cork for the first time in eight years whilst Galway search to end a recent spell of dominance from Waterford in their fixture.
