All-Ireland final: Mayo handed injury boost ahead of Tyrone showdown

Mayo could be in line for a double boost ahead of Saturday’s All-Ireland final with Oisin Mullin and Eoghan McLaughlin reported to be winning their fitness race.

Mullin, an All Star and 2020 Young Footballer of the Year, missed the semi-final win over Dublin with a quad injury but is thought to be on course to return to the starting line-up for the Tyrone clash.

And while that may not come as a major surprise for an injury of that nature given that there’s a four-week gap between the semi-final and final, the possible availability of McLaughlin after he underwent surgery for a double jaw fracture following a sickening collision with Dublin’s John Small was not expected.

But the Connaught Telegraph has reported that both players’ recoveries are progressing well and ahead of schedule, meaning that Mayo boss James Horan could have close to a full hand to play, outside of longer-term injuries such as the Achilles tendon rupture that ended top scorer Cillian O’Connor’s season in June.
