Mariah Carey has sold a pitch for a new Christmas movie to the studio New Line. The singer and actor originally brought the idea to Brett Ratner for a festive movie that she also hopes to star in, according to Deadline.

The untitled pitch was then packaged with writers David Diamond and David Weissman and producer Jon Shestack and sold to New Line. Diamond and Weissman previously worked with Ratner on Christmas comedy drama The Family Man, while Shestack’s credits include Air Force One and Dan in Real Life.

The plot of the film is being kept under wraps for now, but it reportedly revolves around the idea that the power of music can transport you back in time to your truest feelings. The soundtrack will be made up of songs from Carey as well as other artists.

Carey had a hit in 1994 with All I Want for Christmas is You which has sold more than 14m copies globally. She also released an album called Merry Christmas which features other festive tracks. Her big screen performances have included Precious and Glitter.

Brett Ratner will produce the film, with a director yet to be confirmed.
