All eyes on October 30 as poll campaign ends

BHOPAL: Campaigning came to an end 72 hours before the bypolls in three assembly and one parliamentary constituency of Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday evening.

Polling is scheduled on October 30 and results will be declared on November 2.

The three assembly constituencies where bypolls are scheduled are Jobat in Alirajpur district, Raigaon in Satna district and Prithvipur in Niwari district. Bypoll is also scheduled in Khandwa Lok Sabha constituency.

Overall, there are 26.5 lakh voters in these four constituencies. A total of 48 candidates are in the fray—6 in Jobat, 10 in Prithvipur and 16 in Raigaon assembly constituency and 16 candidates will be contesting from Khandwa parliamentary seat. As per the instructions of the Election Commission of India (ECI), the silent period which in normal circumstances begins 48 hours before elections, has been increased to 72 hours in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

A total of 50 companies of special armed forces from other states, 8 companies from Madhya Pradesh SAF, 914 officers, 6,962 constables, 3,123 homeguard personnel and 3,945 special police officers have been deployed to ensure peaceful, free and fair elections. Apart from it, 55 flying squad teams and 64 static surveillance teams have also been deployed.

Polling will be carried out from 7am to 6pm.

Polling will be carried out at 3,944 polling booths across the four constituencies. Out of these, as many as 865 polling stations have been identified as critical.

All those individuals who have attained the age of 18 years as on January 1, 2021 are eligible to vote for the bypolls, provided their names are in the voters’ list. Apart from the voters’ card, 12 other documents, including Aadhaar card, job card of MNREGA, driving licence, PAN card and other such documents will be valid as identity proof.
