All England's Covid rules could be lifted by March, says report

All remaining Covid rules and restrictions in England could be lifted by March according to a new report.

The move would put the country on track for a 'normal' Easter with no restrictions in place.

The Guardian says the plans are now being drawn up in Downing Street

A senior source told the newspaper the lifting of rules would include an end to self-isolation even if you test positive for Covid.

At the minute people who fail to self isolate can be fined £10,000 - but those rules will expire in March, and according to reports they will not be renewed.

Test and trace - where you have to tell the NHS of anyone you have been in contact with if you test positive - would also end at the same time.

The Government is set to announce any changes to Plan B within days, with January 26 set as the review date.

The Government this week said any changes coming into force on January 26 would be announced as soon as possible to allow people to prepare.

An end to Plan B would mean an end to working from home, Covid passports for access to venues and events and other rules.

Mask wearing in shops and on transport looks set to remain for the immediate future.

“There’s a few legal powers still on the statute book, not least the requirement to self-isolate. At some point we will have to address them,” the source told The Guardian.

Two sources said working from home guidance is unlikely to last after January 26, along with the final rules on vaccinated people returning to the UK from abroad.
