All DWP payments being made today ahead of May bank holiday

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed some benefit claimants expecting their payment next week will receive their payment today (May 26). The spring bank holiday on Monday, May 29 means some DWP and HMRC benefit claimants can expect their payment early.

Payments expected on May 29 will instead be made today, the DWP said in its Touchbase bulletin, the Express reports. Phonelines and Jobcentres are closed on bank holiday, so an early payment means claimants are still able to get in touch with the relevant department if there are any issues.

The spring bank holiday is the third of the month, following May Day on May 1 and an extra bank holiday for the Coronation of King Charles III on May 8.

The DWP said: "On Monday, May 29, Jobcentre Plus offices and phone lines are closed. To make sure people get their payment on a day when Jobcentre Plus offices are open, some payments will be paid early. If the expected payment date is Monday, May 29, benefits will be paid on Friday, May 26."
