All drivers can now be fined £5,000 and get 9 points for forgetting a basic one-second action

All drivers in the UK have been warned they now risk getting fined £5,000 and having 9 points on their license for a simple indicator mistake.

Anyone caught using their indicator incorrectly could not only be left out of pocket, but will also get a large amount of points on their license.

Motoring experts at Goodbye Car are saying that failing to use your indicators can fall under the ‘careless and inconsiderate driving’ offense or be classed as driving without due care and attention.

This offence could land you with a huge fine up to £5,000, up to 9 points on your license, and you could even be disqualified from driving in serious cases.

Mark Royal, Operations Manager at Goodbye Car, says that “knowing when (and when not!) to indicate is a skill of its own, given there are no black and white rules, but it’s incredibly important to learn when they should be used for the safety of yourself and other motorists.”
