All day breakfast famous throughout Ayrshire set to return from lockdown

It is the belly busting all day breakfast famous throughout Ayrshire.

And for hungry customers, the long wait for its comeback is almost over.

Bosses at Ayr's Stage Door Cafe will throw open their doors again tomorrow morning following 14 months of lockdown.

Pent-up demand from punters has seen the restaurant devise plans to re-open well ahead of schedule in its home at The Gaiety Theatre.

And scores have already booked their spot to tackle the popular brekkie — where everything from eggs and bacon to hollandaise sauce and chips can be piled high on the plate.

General manager Jon Neil told Ayrshire Live: "Ever since we opened seven years ago, the Stage Door has been renowned for its breakfasts.

"It has sort of become our thing and from the moment we had to close our doors for lockdown last year, we had people asking about the re-opening.

"We let people order as many items as they like so it's kind of viewed as a challenge by some who come in.

"We once had a bodybuilder order 36 items — of which 14 were poached eggs — and he destroyed the whole thing.

"We're proud of all the food we do here, but the 'Stage Door Breakfasts' have quite rightly become famous in their own right."

The eaterie is part of the chain run by owner Chris Steele, which also includes Arthur Street Kitchen and The Hollybush Inn.

And the team are hoping the return from lockdown can help signal a return of better times in Ayr and beyond.

Jon added: "We originally thought the Stage Door wouldn't re-open until far later in the year when the Gaiety started having shows again.

"But we've tried doing our breakfasts at our other venues and they've never taken off in the same way.

"For some reason people just associate it with the Stage Door, and the demand for us to re-open was huge.

"We can't wait to get started.

"It's been a hard year for everyone in the industry but hopefully we will start to come out of the other side now."
