All but two areas of Trafford now have Covid infection rates over 400 cases per 100,000 people

All but two areas of Trafford now have infection rates of over 400 cases per 100,000 people.

The borough is seeing some of the highest infection rates it has had since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

Now, the only two areas with comparatively lower rates are Urmston West and Davyhulme, which have rates of 329.7 and 337.1 cases per 100,000 population respectively.

According to the government’s interactive covid-19 map, the majority of the borough has rates between 400 cases per 100,000 and 799 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending July 16.

But Sale East has an even higher one – becoming the new ‘hotspot’ of cases in the borough with a rate of 931.1 cases per 100,000 population.

A total of 78 new cases were reported in Sale East in the week ending July 16 – that’s an increase of 30 from the number of new cases confirmed the week before.

There were 28 and 23 new cases found in Davyhulme and Urmston West respectively in that same week.

Outside Sale East, the next highest infection rate is in Altrincham West, Dunham and Warburton, which has an rate of 624.8 cases per 100,000 people and 61 new cases confirmed in the week ending July 16.

Health bosses, GPs and some Trafford councillors have all voiced a need for caution following the full easing of restrictions earlier this week in England.

One Altrincham GP urged that residents do not become ‘complacent’ about the virus now restrictions have gone.

Similarly, director for public health Eleanor Roaf said that living with the virus ‘is not the same as letting it run rampant and do what it wants’.
