All Blacks talisman's World Cup hanging in the balance after controversial incident that's divided opinion

The All Blacks will be sweating the fitness report on talisman lock Brodie Retallick after he left their Rugby Championship match with South Africa early.

Arguably the best second row in the world, walked gingerly from the field in Wellington midway through the second half, clutching his shoulder.

The 76-cap talisman was the victim of what looked to be a dubious clearout from RG Snyman that led to Retallick dislocating his shoulder, All Blacks boss Steve Hansen later confirmed.

The Kiwi will now go for scans on the injured limb to gauge the severity of the injury and with the Rugby World Cup less than two months away, it's set to be a nervous few days ahead.

Should he require surgery, it would almost certainly rule him out of the global gathering in Japan.

The incident itself sparked a furious reaction on social media, with many deciding that Snyman came in from the side and illegally cleared out his opposing second row.
