All Black Lives march through Bristol to take place this weekend

Young campaigners who organised the Black Lives Matter march in Bristol in June are staging another march through the city centre this weekend calling for an end to racial discrimination.

The protest will begin with a gathering at College Green in the centre of Bristol, then there will be a march through the city centre and end with a rally at Castle Park.

The event is set to take place on Sunday, September 6, from 2pm.

The group behind the protest is part of a national organisation called All Black Lives, and is separate to the American 'Black Lives Matter' movement.

The All Black Lives organisation in Britain is staging three marches around the country - one in London, another in Manchester and a third in Bristol - and are billing them as 'a comeback'.

The All Black Lives group in Bristol have staged a number of events since the June 7 march which saw 10,000 people take to the streets of the city, and the statue of slave trader Edward Colston toppled and tossed into the Floating Harbour at St Augustine's Reach.

The group is calling on the government to end racial discrimination in criminal justice, reform the education system, end racial health disparities, implement the recommendations of numerous reviews into racism and institutional racism in this country, and also to stand with black community in the United States.

A spokesperson for All Black Lives Bristol said they were expecting more people to turn out.

"This Sunday, almost exactly three months after our first protests, every All Black Lives branch will be marching together nationally," he said.

"We expect for even more attendees than the marches on June 7 now that lockdown has been eased more and students are returning to our not-so-glorious city - do not miiss out on such a historical event.

"We ask you to show up with PPE as usual but this time we want to make as much noise a possible; bring instruments, bring sirens and bring your voices. Bristol will be shut down by us once again and we will be heard," he added.
