All batches of popular chicken sold in Ireland recalled due to salmonella fears

A popular brand of chicken sold at Aldi is being recalled due to salmonella fears.

A number of batches of the chicken was issued a recall notice several weeks ago, but now all batches are being summoned back.

The problem affects Roosters Southern Fried Poppin’ Chicken and Roosters Breaded Poppin’ Chicken.

Retailers are being told to remove the products from sale, while consumers are being warned not to eat them if already purchased.

Salmonella symptoms normally take between 12 and 36 hours to show.

These include diarrhoea, fever, headache and abdominal cramps.

Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission.

The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness, according to the Food Safety Authority.

A spokesperson said: "Further to FSAI Food Alert 2020.62  and  FSAI Food Alert 2020.62 (Update 1)  , Aldi is extending its recall to include all batches and all best before dates of Roosters Southern Fried Poppin’ Chicken and Roosters Breaded Poppin’ Chicken.

"All batches are being recalled due to the possible presence of Salmonella.

"Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores supplied with the implicated products."
