Armor pieces in Destiny 2 drop with spikes in three stats, and investing in the right stats is essential to make your build stronger. Armor archetypes determine the primary and secondary stats of an armor piece, so you want to find an archetype that features stats you need.
Here’s how armor archetypes work in Destiny 2, as well as every archetype and its stats.
All armor archetypes in Destiny 2
Legendary and Exotic armor pieces in Destiny 2 drop with a random archetype, determining the primary and the secondary stats. The tertiary and the tuning mod slot stats (available only on Tier 5 armor) are random, regardless of the archetype.
Here are all the armor archetypes and their stats in Destiny 2:
| Archetype | Primary stat | Secondary stat |
|---|---|---|
| Siegebreaker | Health | Grenade |
| Bulwark | Health | Class |
| Brawler | Melee | Health |
| Skirmisher | Melee | Weapons |
| Grenadier | Grenade | Super |
| Demolitionist | Grenade | Class |
| Colossus | Super | Health |
| Paragon | Super | Melee |
| Reaver | Class | Melee |
| Specialist | Class | Weapons |
| Gunner | Weapons | Grenade |
| Powerhouse | Weapons | Super |
Exotic class item archetypes in Destiny 2
Exotic class items don’t roll with random archetypes. Instead, the archetype depends on the left column perk. For example, Relativism (Hunter Exotic class item) with Spirit of Renewal will always have a Grenadier archetype. And Spirit of Inmost Light will always have a Paragon archetype.
How to get armor of a specific archetype in Destiny 2
To increase the chances of getting an armor piece with a specific archetype, use a corresponding Armorer mod in the Economic Ghost Mod socket on the ghost shell. Armorer mod increases the odds of an armor piece having that archetype to one in two. This also applies when focusing Exotic armor pieces at the Cryptarch.
While armor drops in any activity, here are a few ways to farm Tier 5 armor fast:
- Distortions
- Portal activities on Grandmaster difficulty
- Weekly featured raid and dungeons
Every activity features a unique armor set with two and four-piece set bonuses. For example, wearing two armor pieces from a New Demotic set grants a bonus to flinch resistance after sliding to primary weapons. To make the most out of your build, farm an armor set that complements your subclass and/or weapons.
